Ik ben kunstenaar Martin Wallaert, geboren te Deinze in 1944. Zowel mijn vader als grootvader waren antiquair te Deinze. Ik bracht er mijn jeugd door tot ik naar de sierkunstschool, Cadixsstraat te Antwerpen trok om mijn kunstopleiding te volgen. Het was namelijk mijn droom om kunstschilder te worden. Daarna vervolgde ik mijn studies aan het Nationaal Hoger Instituut te Antwerpen.
Met Maurice Schelck, Antoon Catrie, Leon De Smet, Hubert Malfait, Albert Claeys, Fons Roggeman en Dees De Bruyne maakte ik deel uit van een kunstenaarskring die elke zondagmorgen verzamelde in het Latemse museum om er tussen pot en pint bij te praten en de kunstliefhebbers te woord te staan.
Ik heb vele jaren in Frankrijk gewoond en exposeerde er in Galerie des Papes te Avignon.
Nu woon ik opnieuw in België, in een buurgemeente van Deinze, nl. Machelen-aan-de-Leie.
Villa Ter Ide is een gebouw in de Anglo-Normandische bouwstijl uit de jaren '20 waar de authentieke sfeer gebleven is.
In het moderne atelier werk en exposeer ik.
Op zondag werk ik even niet en nodig u dan ook graag uit om eens langs te komen in mijn atelier.

In Villa Ter Ide in the charming village of Machelen-aan-de-Leie artist Martin Wallaert has found his inspiring living and working space.
In this magical environment he creates the most intimate portraits of people and living creatures he loves.
Full of passion, honest, and untouchable like poetry are just some of the words to describe Martin’s work.
Martin is one of the last living “Latemse” painters and therefore it makes him and his work most unique. The “Latemse” painters were a group of artists attracted by the beautiful and inspiring nature and laidback atmosphere of the picturesque villages of Deurle and Sint-Martens-Latem in Belgium, Europe.
There was a lot of interaction and friendship between Albert Servaes, George Minne, Gustave van de Woestijne, Albijn Van den Abeele Karel van de Woestijne, Emile Claus,… (First school). There was also a second and third school with artists as Constant Permeke, Gust De Smet, Leon De Smet, Albert Saverys, …. Martin Wallaert is part of the fourth generation of “Latemse” painters.
His way of painting fits no specific style.
The artist himself uses the word “Intimism” when we ask him for his style.
